The Story of Pittville Pump Room
A free immersive heritage trail bringing the history of the iconic Grade I listed Regency building to life.
The trail, created and provided by The Cheltenham Trust, showcases our heritage with a modern twist. It offers a visual tour, vignettes of artefacts from a specific era, a beautiful hand-made replica model of the pump room, replica Regency costumes that can be tried on to capture memorable photographs.
A self-guided audio tour is accessed by QR code and can be listened to by phone or tablet enabling visitors to access when and how they wish. Listen to characters from the eras tell their stories and experiences of the pump room and its history.
Heritage trail dates
From Tuesday 7 May, Pittville Pump Room will be opening for visitors weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 1pm, and visitors will be able to view the main ballroom with its renowned ornate plasterwork ceiling, dome, and apse on the ground floor.
On the days when the venue is hosting an event or private hire inside the building, the audio trail and some visual elements, will still be available. Visitors can enjoy the Heritage Deco Café in the orangery which is open seven days a week.
On these following days, Pittville Pump Room will be closed to visitors:
Wednesday 18 September and Thursday 19 September due to events. The trail will also be closed on Thursday 26 September due to our venue showcase.

The story of Pittville Pump Room heritage with its illustrated panels will be on display in the main ballroom telling the fascinating story of the pump room, for visitors to follow and browse as they take in the Regency grandeur of the building with its sweeping views across Pittville Park to the lake below.
There is also a self-guided audio trail for visitors to enjoy. Members of The Cheltenham Trust’s events team will be on-site to meet and greet visitors, and showcase the venue which is available for private hire.
Visitors will be able to sign up to become charity members of the trust, enjoying great value discounts on food and drinks in the cafes and event bars, and fast access and priority updates on shows at Cheltenham Town Hall, and Pittville Pump Room. The Heritage Café, adjoining the pump room, will be open for visitors to enjoy food and drinks during their visit.
